Who Are The BikeSherpa's?
Robert Reimann, Co-Founder & CEO - An expert long distance road cyclist and traveler, Robert has taken hundreds of solo and group bike trips around the globe. He’s cycled through a wide variety of diverse locations, including Portugal, Turkey, Croatia, Martinique and Colombia. Shortly after 9/11, he traveled through Iran to get an on-the-ground view of that part of the world. Born and raised in New York, Robert has strong European roots, holds dual US-German citizenship and has spent years living in Europe. He holds a B.A. in intenational relations, an M.B.A in international business and a B.S. in international security studies.
Anna Graefe, Co-Founder - Anna enjoys competitive cycling and cross country skiing. Born and raised in Dresden, Germany, Anna is an expert at the best European travel destinations and classic cycling routes. Previous to BikeSherpa, Anna was the owner of a luxury clothing and fabric boutique. She studied philosophy and history at Dresden University.
Anna and Robert together manage and operate BikeSherpa.com from their offices in Manhattan and home in Dresden, Germany.
Former NYC Banker Launches First Social Bike Tours Site BikeSherpa.com
New York, NY-- BikeSherpa, Inc. becomes the first bicycle tour company to use social networking to allow users to choose bike tours based on who else is participating. Visitors to BikeSherpa.com can see and communicate with other cyclists interested in, or going on, specific tours. BikeSherpa.com has made the bike tour search and selection process more intuitive and the trip itself more social and enjoyable.
Inspired by a two week bike tour through Iran just after 9/11, Robert Reimann, founder and CEO of BikeSherpa.com, created BikeSherpa.com to help foster communication in the cycling world. Reimann traveled to Iran with a documentary film crew after his TriBeCa office was destroyed in the World Trade Center attacks.
“I realized that instant communication and social networking could be used to improve bike tours,” said Reimann. “One day I foresee the entire travel industry using similar social features to let passengers see who’s on their plane, let kids know who’s going to be at their summer camp, and vacationers know who else is on their cruise. The age of ‘blind date’ travel is over.”
BikeSherpa.com was founded on the simple principle that traveling with a great group of people is as important as the spectacular scenery and cultural experience of the trip itself.
At BikeSherpa.com, users can create a profile with their bike travel preferences, view users who have signed up or indicated interest in a tour and even see the most popular tour dates. This helps cyclists choose the right tour and connect with riders beforehand. People can also form their own groups, easily invite others to join, and add a theme to the tour, like a college reunion "wine ride" through Bordeaux, or a Bachelor party "Belgian beer" ride.
Tours are customizable, and lodging ranges from charming inns to steamboat cruises. BikeSherpa.com offers a variety of tour styles, from the elegant simplicity of European-style Independent tours to fully guided packages around the globe.
The BikeSherpa.com team splits their time between their Manhattan headquarters and their home in Dresden, Germany. This allows them to cycle-test many tours in Europe and work with local partners to develop new tours, all while maintaining close ties to their American clients.
