About your bike tour

The Lake Constance cycle route is the most popular cycle route in Europe. Along this tour you will cycle around the Lake, get to know three countries and the four islands of Reichenau, Mainau, Lindau and Werd. Highlights include the medieval towns of Constance, Stein, Meersburg and Lindau. In comparison to other cycling routes, the daily stages along this trip are relatively short as you have a large variety of places and attractions to discover. Enjoy the impressive landscape of the Lake against the fabulous backdrop of the Alps. This cycling trip is also suitable for families with children.

Day 1: Konstanz (Baden-Württemberg)

You will begin your trip in Constance, which is the largest town on Lake Constance, and is still quite Medieval in character to this day. In 1414, the town hosted the only church council ever to take place north of the Alps. A small museum is dedicated to the Czech reformer Jan Hus, who was burnt at the stake here. The symbol of the city is the statue of Imperia, which is a memorial to the prostitutes of the council time. The aquariums of the Sea Life Center are also worth a visit, as is the Archaeological Museum.

20 km / alternative route: 30 km Day 2: Stein am Rhein (Schaffhausen)

The first stage leads you on to the island of Reichenau, whose monastery was extremely influential in the 10th Century and was declared to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. A boat will bring you across to the Höri Peninsula and you will cycle towards Gaienhofen, where Hermann Hesse lived from 1904 to 1912. You will continue on through Hemmenhofen (where the painter Otto Dix lived and worked) and Öhningen and over the border to the Swiss town of Stein am Rhein with its picturesque old town.

30 km / alternative route: 50 km Day 3: Stein am Rhein (Schaffhausen)

Today you will cycle to Schaffhausen, overlooked by the Munot fort.
Then you will visit the Rheinfall, the largest waterfall in Central Europe. A
boat will bring you to the Rheinfall rocks, so you will experience the full
force of the thunderous waters.
You will be going back by bike, alternatively you can choose going by
boat (not included).

45 km / alternative route: 55 km Day 4: Überlingen (Baden-Württemberg)

The start of today‘s tour will lead you through the almost completely
preserved medieval town Stein am Rhein. You will cycle along the Swiss
shores of the lake back to Constance. In Wallhausen you will board a
boat and disembark in Überlingen with its late gothic style cathedral and
beautiful health resort park and lake walkway.

50 km / alternative route: 55 km Day 5: Friedrichshafen (Baden-Württemberg)

From Überlingen you will cycle to Friedrichshafen. You will pass by the
baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau and the ancient town of Meersburg
on the way. In Friedrichshafen the Zeppelinmuseum is worth visiting.

40 km / alternative route: 55 km Day 6: Rorschach (Sankt Gallen)

Today you will travel towards the Bavarian town of Lindau, which is picturesquely
situated on an island. Then you will head on towards Bregenz.
The capital town of Vorarlberg is famous for its annual drama festival
on the largest lake theatre in the world. You will then pass through
an important nature reserve on the Rhein delta.

30 km / alternative route: 45 km Day 7: Konstanz (Baden-Württemberg)

The last day of your tour leads you through Romanshorn, with most important
Swiss harbour on Lake Constance. You will pass many villages
full with wooden framed houses on your way back to Constance. You
can visit Mainau island today if you haven’t already done so.

Day 8: Konstanz (Baden-Württemberg)

After breakfast your Lake Constance cycling tour comes to an end and you will begin your journey home. We would also be more than happy to extend your stay on the Lake.
