About your bike tour
This luxury Independent bike tour heads through the Black Forest, the center of Germany's culinary and wine revolution. We'll taste delicious German wines and schnapps, dine in Michelin rated restaurants and cycle along casual, traffic-free bike paths.
Our tour takes us through the vineyards and orchards of the Kaiserstuhl, Breisgau and Markgräflerland regions, including the Taubergiessen nature preserve. We pedal through picturesque villages, like the medieval Gengenbach and visit the famous cathedral in Freiburg.
The Black Forest is the home of an exciting and creative new European cuisine. We'll dine at some of the finest restaurants, including the Adler in Reichenbach and Black Eagle in Vogtsburg - both awarded with one Michelin star. We also taste some of the areas top local wines and spirits, including the distillery at Heuberg Oberkirch and a wine tasting at Dr. Heger Ihringen, one of Germany's most renowned wineries.
The pace of riding is casual, through mostly-flat valleys and rolling hills of wine fields and a pristine nature preserve along mainly traffic-free cycle paths.

Travel destinations on the map
8 km Day 1: Oberkirch (Baden-Württemberg)
Arrive in Oberkirch, in the southwestern tip of Germany.
The tour begins at the Romantik-Hotel Zur Oberen Linde, a long name for a lovely spot. We take a short pedal through the local orchards to the local “Schnapps” distillery in Heuberg. The proprietor, Mr. Holder will introduce us to the art of distilling schnapps.
48 km Day 2: Reichenbach bei Biberach (Baden-Württemberg)
Oberkirch – Reichenbach
Today we ride in the Rhine Valley through sweet smelling orchards to Offenburg. From there, we pedal along the “Lauf der Kinzig”, a small river that separates the North and South Black Forest, to the medieval city of Gengenbach.
In the afternoon, we pedal by picturesque Black Forest farming villages through the Schutter Valley.
Our hotel is the wonderful Hotel Adler in Reichenbach. The reward for a good day’s riding is dinner at the hotel where the chef Otto Fehrenbacher’s kitchen was awarded a Michelin star.
56 km Day 3: Oberbergen (Baden-Württemberg)
Reichenbach – Oberbergen
After breakfast at the Hotel Adler, we ride through the Rhine valley into the pristine Taubergiessen nature preserve, with its rivers, woods and grasslands along the French border. From here, we can see the Kaisersfuhl volcano (yes, there are volcanoes in Germany!), which helped create the rich soil here in the region.
No need to pack our bags since we’ll continue to stay at the Hotel Schwarzer Adler in Oberbergen for the next two nights. The gourmet cuisine continues tonight as we dine in the restaurant of the Rebstock winery, run by the Keller family.
28 km / alternative route: 56 km Day 4: Oberbergen (Baden-Württemberg)
Trip to Freiburg
Our ride takes us through the rolling hills of the wine growing region, the Kaiserstuhl, literally the “King’s Chair”, where we pass fields growing Müller-Thurgau, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer and more. We ride into Freiburg, a laid-back, beautiful university city known as the “jewel of the Black Forest”.
From here, we can choose to cycle or take the local train to Ihringen, where we visit the renowned winery of the vintner Dr. Heger for some wine tasting on his patio. Back in Oberbergen, we savor another dinner in the restaurant Schwarzer Adler (1 Michelin star).
56 km Day 5: Oberbergen (Baden-Württemberg)
Tour of the Kaiserstuhl
Today we enjoy a leisurely ride around the Kaiserstuhl. We pedal by terraced vineyards, fruit orchards, gentle fields and local gardens. We ride through cute wine-producing villages with colorfully painted Fachwerk (timbered) houses on our way back to the hotel in Oberbergen.
Free night in Oberbergen.

Hi, two dinners at Michelin rated restaurants are included in the price of this tour. The dinner on the second night at the Hotel Adler in Reichenbach and the dinner at the Schwarzer Adler in Oberbergen.
Hello - we are very interested in taking the Black Forest trip for July 14th. We would need to rent bikes (one male, one female). I understand that you carry the luggages to each location - is that true? What is the best way to sign up?!
